German Base Solar Installation Guidelines

1. Site Preparation

Survey & Soil Testing:

• Perform geotechnical soil tests.
• Ensure ground bearing capacity ≥ 150 kN/m² for structure foundations.

Leveling & Drainage:

• Maintain ≤ 2% slope for efficient water runoff.

2. Mounting Structure (German Standard – DIN EN 1090)

• Material: Aluminum (AL6005-T5) or Magnelis® steel (EN 10346) for corrosion resistance (up to 25 years).
• Coating: Zinc-Al-Mg coating ≥ 310 g/m² for Magnelis.
• Bolts/Nuts: Stainless steel A2/A4 (ISO 3506).
• Wind speed: up to 180 km/h (IS 875/Eurocode 1).
• Snow load (for colder zones): 0.8–1.2 kN/m².

3. Foundation Options

Ground Mount:

• Rammed C-channel pile (Hot-dip galvanized).
• Precast concrete foundation (for weak soil).

Roof Mount:

• Ballast or rail-clamp system; no roof penetration.

4. Solar Module Installation

• Tilt Angle: 10° – 25° (depends on latitude).
• Orientation: Face true south (in India) or true north (in Germany).
• Module Clamping: Torque: 8–10 Nm (check manufacturer datasheet).
• Gap: Minimum 10 mm between modules for thermal expansion.

5. Electrical Installation

DC Side:

• PV Cable: TÜV-certified, double insulated, UV-resistant (EN 50618).
• Connector: MC4 original or equivalent (IP67).
• DCDB with SPD (Type 2), fuse, isolator.

Inverter:

• String or central inverter (efficiency ≥ 98%).
• Grounding as per IEC 60364.

AC Side:

• ACDB, MCCB, surge protection, earthing.
• Cable loss ≤ 1.5%.

6. Earthing & Lightning

• Earthing Resistance: < 5 Ω
• Material: GI strip 25 × 3 mm or copper.
• Lightning Protection: Type 1 + Type 2 SPD + lightning rod.

7. Testing & Commissioning

Tests:

• Insulation resistance (IR) test.
• String continuity test.
• Inverter performance test.

Documentation:

• As-built drawings.
• Test reports.
• Operation & maintenance manual.

• IEC 60364 (Electrical Safety)
• ISO 45001 (Occupational Safety)
• EN 62446 (System Testing)
