Why Solar Panel Cleaning is Important
1. Dust and Dirt Reduce Power Output
Dust, bird droppings, and pollution form a thin layer on solar panels.
This blocks sunlight from reaching the solar cells.
Even 1% dust can reduce generation by 3–5%, and in dusty areas, losses can reach 20–30%!
2. Hot Spots and Damage
When dirt blocks part of a solar cell, that cell heats up (called a hot spot).
Over time, this damages the module glass and cells, shortening panel life.
3. Better Return on Investment (ROI)
Regular cleaning improves efficiency → higher generation → faster ROI.

A 1 MW plant can lose ₹50,000–₹1 lakh/month if panels are dirty.
4. Required by O&M Standards

6. Cleaning Methods
- Manual Cleaning: Water + soft brush/mop.
- Robotic Cleaning: No water, automated — used for large plants.
- Water Quality: TDS < 100 ppm (hard water leaves mineral spots).
7. Safety & Precautions
- Always clean early morning or evening (panels cool).
- Don’t stand or lean on panels.
- Don’t use detergents or acidic water.
